**2009's LSSP and ICON was held in Birmingham, AL from August 1th - August 5 th (LSSP) & from August 5th - August 9th (ICON)!** 3 members of the Carolinas District attended LSSP and 2 more joined them for ICON! Now, what happened in Birmingham for those events? Read on below and make sure to check out the LSSP article written by one of our own Carolinas District members! Large Scale Service Project (LSSP) LSSP was an amazing experience of hardcore community service for 3 days straight (with another day of fellowship) with Circle K members from all over. The 2009 LSSP saw 120 volunteers in Birmingham, AL where they split up into 8 different groups with magical themes. The first day of service, the volunteers assisted Habitat for Humanity with more than just building houses. While some groups did help with construction, others worked on repairs and repainting on some houses in the neighborhood. Others worked to beautify the surrounding areas to ensure sustainability. The second day of service, the groups were dispersed throughout the city to help with various non-profit organizations around Birmingham. One helped at Big Brother Big Sister by clearing out a stuffed basement and building shelving units. Another toiled under the heat in the Birmingham Ministries to tidy up and repair the backyard. Another set of groups worked on the Jones Family Garden to tend the plots of land intended to help low income families. A fantastic set of groups worked in an Eco Garden as well. It wasn't just all service though. The nights were spent bonding with members from all over. The LSSP Committee planned a trip to the Botanical Gardens and Vulcan Park for attendees one night. The last day of LSSP, the groups participated in an AMAZING RACE! It was quite the experience. With each person working an average total of 26 volunteer hours, the group amassed a total of approximately 3,120 service hours, and demonstrated a level of dedication that personifies the committment Circle K has to bettering the world. ![]() International Convention (ICON) International Convention was like District Convention...except on an international scale of course.
